International and local experience

My journey into the counselling profession began in Hamilton with Workplace Support (now Vitae) where I offered onsite support to employees in a range of workplaces (1997-2000). Moving to the University of Waikato to work as a student consultant for international students drew on my earlier experiences of working and living in Asia for 8 years. After completing the Master of Counselling degree at the University of Waikato (2006) I took up a full time position as a qualified counsellor at the University (2007-2009). More recently, an exciting opportunity to work internationally to establish a professional counselling service for students and staff for the University of Nottingham Ningbo China extended my professional experience in a culturally diverse, international context (2009-2015).

Working with Diversity

I consider it a privilege to have worked as a colleague and as a counsellor with people from many different cultural/ethnic backgrounds. These opportunities have enriched both my personal and professional life and it is my hope that those who work with me will experience an honouring of their cultural/ethnic heritage.
